TIP: If you encounter this creature in the wild while with a tribe member, just bola the tribe member and run. — Dododex’s most upvoted Player Tip
The name Giganotosaurus means “giant lizard of the south”, it is one of the dinosaurs in ARK: Survival Evolved. It is also simply known as Giga. Giganotosaurus is a huge predator, bigger even than Tyrannosaurus or Spinosaurus. Being cornered by a Giganotosaurus can mean certain death for almost any creature. Fighting a Giganotosaurus directly is never a good idea, as its rage grows rapidly with every blow it receives. With this rage, it builds up more and more energy reserves, making its iron-jawed bites increasingly deadly and increasing its stamina. Add to this the fact that its huge body also allows it to withstand an enormous amount of damage, and you have a creature that is generally better avoided or taunted than attacked head-on.
Giganotosaurs wander “casually” around the island, slaughtering everything in their path. This can lead them to roam anywhere on the island. Their lack of natural predators (or any form of threat to them) allows their travels around the island to be safe. Lacking a natural predator, the Giganotosaurus is considered the top predator on the Island because of its strength and size. It could be argued that it is the driver of evolution on the maps they are found on. Those who are strong enough to take one down or tame it are guaranteed to thrive almost unopposed. Those who fail to do so end up losing a significant amount of resources, at best, or losing everything, at worst.
Taming the Giganotosaurus is a very dangerous task. Its angry reaction, even when tamed, can cause it to stop recognizing its owners and briefly attempt to attack members of its own tribe. In fact, it may even throw its rider if it has become angry enough! However, the sheer size and immense power possessed by the Giganotosaurus makes some factions strive to tame it as a fear-inducing “capital” war beast, even at great risk to their lives. In the image below, we can see a comparison of the size of the Giganotosaurus, next to the T-Rex. Impressive, isn’t it?
How to tame a Giganotosaurus?
There are several ways to tackle this titanic task, but first what we need to think about is what is the Giga’s favorite food. As it could not be otherwise, it is a carnivorous dinosaur, its diet includes a variety of meats such as Prime Meat, Cooked Prime Meat, and Raw Meat. Another aspect to take into account is the quality of weaponry you possess and the number of resources you have. Finally, we will plan 2 types of strategies: The first is to find a Giga and take it towards an advantageous position where it can’t reach us by any means (it can work in a mountain area), then use arrows and tranquilizer darts to sedate it, then feed it with caution.
The second is to create a kind of trap with metal dinosaur doors (no need to place the doors, we will use only the frames), as this type of structure will take much longer to break. And in the middle of the structure, place a large bear trap to immobilize it. With this we will achieve a sufficient window of time to try to sedate it. Would you dare to face this prehistoric colossus?
